2 Yr Old Had Tonsils&adnoids 3/6~ Need Healing Process Advice!!!!
My daughter had her tonsils and adnoids removed as well as a 2nd set of tubes on Friday. She, as of Sunday, refuses to take her pain medication that was given to her by the doctor, but will take motrin and/or tylenol (So we give her that..). She is eating and drinking SOME, but her breath is TERRIBLE!!! They say that this is normal, but how long is normal? She is also experiening this yucky cough? Has anyone else experienced this after this type of surgery? She has terrible allergies, so initially I was attributing it to that, but I am very close to taking her in to see her doctor. How long should I expect my poor little one to be so miserable? NOT to mention, my 8 year old is having sympathy pain for her (through her stomache) and does not want to go to school (I think she is afraid to leave her)!! My heart is hurting for both of them and any advice to help make this transition more comfortable is welcome! (Food advice, pain relieving advice... etc)
So What Happened?™
Thank you to everyone for their help! I just stayed consistent with the Tylenol and stopped the motrin. I had heard about the bleeding, just thought it was the day of surgery not to give it. She made it through her first night last night without waking up screaming! I made sure to push the liquids even more and had her humidifier turned up in her room. I think the moisture in the air and increased liquids really did the trick! Ok so now we have a really muffled voice... if it's not one thing it's another right?

A friends son did this, but he was doing well for the first 2 or 3 days, and then it seemed like he crashed for about 4 days!! I remember her complaining about similar symptoms, so I say that while you should check in just to make sure, it sounds fairly normal. He had to eat soft foods, lots of popsicles etc, for like a week before he was willing to do more. As for the older child, I would probably let her stay for one day, but then after that let her know that school cant wait, and that if she is really so sick, maybe a visit to the doctor and seclusion to her room is the key. I am sure all will be well within a few days! Hang in there ~A.~

When my now 16 year old was 6 he had his adnoids removed and he has awful allergies. He had a cough and bad breath for at least a week. He had so much drainage when they did the surgery and that is why he ended up with the cough. Even with his cough he was not feeling bad for more then 24 hours. He did eat soft foods for abotu the first 48 hours. Ice cream was his favorite.
You should call your ENT and run the symptoms by him/her and make sure it is all normal. It seems like she should be feeling alot better by now. Good luck.

It took our 2 year old 10 days before he felt better. I would just keep offering popcicles and ice cream and other soft foods and just love on her. It will get better, but this will be the worst two weeks that you have to go through. I do not envy you. I am glad that is one surgery that we are done with.
The good news is that the pain will be worth it. Our son had his surgery over the summer and only got sick once this cold and flu season so just get through the next 5 days and I promise you that it will get better!
