2 Year Old with Eczema

My 2 year old and my 8 month old both have eczema. My 2 year old has is pretty bad on the back of her legs and in between her arms. I have a prescription that the doctor gave me to us on it but said to us it sparingly that it thins her skin. So my question is there anything that I can us that will work just as well and not thin her skin? Any suggestions are welcome.

What can I do next?

My nephew had a huge problem with this. I am in agreement with some of the other responses when they talk about allergies. My sister found that wheat was the main culprit for her son. She was only sad to find that he suffered so long with it and not even the specialist mentioned that to her. Also she stopped using fabric softners and uses the all free and clear detergent.

T.,
I know exactly what you're going through, my 11 month old has Eczema as well. I've noticed that tomato based foods really make it flair.. also fragranced laundry detergents really irritate their skin more, try using a fragrance free and allergin free detergent. that will help also. What i use for my babies Eczema is the regular 1% hydrocortisone cream to relieve the itchiness and redness. Only use that twice a day, and aquaphor on over the hydrocortisone. Use the Aquaphor as much as you want/possible throughout the day. This helps my child tremendously!! Also, I've just started using the new product by Aveeno- called Eczema Care. So far so good. :)
Another thing you can do to relieve the itch and redness is the baby aveeno Oatmeal Baths! All of the products i mentioned are available at wal mart, target, etc. Hope i could help ya!

T., I have 3 sons, twins they are 4 and 17mnth old & they hve had eczema since birth, so bad they would bleed I tried so many things, baby eczema creams, vaseline, perscribed medicines which i am to use sparingly & they cont. to brake out really bad, well i have a new pedi & she is wonderful. My sons have not had a break out since they have been seeing her, and my 17mnth old has not showed signs for mnths now. Here is what i do. I shower them with, Cetaphil bath wash, it is expensive & when i run out i use Dove for sensative skin, quick baths, use Aveeno shampoo for their hair. While they are still a little wet, lather them with Cetaphil cream, when they wake, more cetaphil cream, I keep them cool in the summer because sweat makes it worse, and I carry the cetaphil w/ me everywhere since I use it atleast 3x a day on them. to keep them moisturized, I keep their hands clean w/ hand sanitizer if they scratch it won't spread as many germs to the affected areas & if the areas get really bad, I use Locoid Lipocream which is what the pedi perscribed, It's been awhile since i have used it. I hope this works for you! Good Luck!

try the melaleuca, it really is wonderful stuff!

I am sorry to hear your little ones have to deal with this. You may have already looked into he root cause of the ezcema, but in case you have not....I have a friend whose little guy was bleeding his ezcema was so bad. They found that dairy and msg's were the culprit. Without these in his diet he has no ezcema at all. I thoght it might be worth mentioning.

Also, Collodial silver can be sprayed on the area and would be much better for such fragile skin.

I hope you get it all figured out soon. May The Lord give you wisdom.

When you go to your local Walmart, go to the areas were they keep personal items such as ,hand lotions and face creams they should have this product called OATMEAL BATH..
It`s really good for any type of skin defect, It may help relieve some of the irritation. If know relief please charge it to my head, and not to my heart.

Good luck and I hope your Darlen Angels get fast relief....

Renew lotion and Renew oil. Use the oil in her bath and then the lotion after the bath. Natural product. Private email me so I can show you where to get samples. Yes it could be a type food she is eating or allergens in the home. I have a friend that her daughter had it real bad. She would scrub the house spotlessly clean with all those cleaners that carry the very chlorine bleach and abrasives that were trigger or add to the problem. She switched her household to Natural cleaning products use the Renew oil for her bath and then the Renew lotion-her daughter now has relief.
Good luck.

Dye/Perfume free laundry detergent.
lotion with no dyes/perfume free
Luke warm bath water
bath every other day (helped a lot with our daughter)

I also hear it could be caused by a food allergy

My 2 yr old is exactly the same way. His allergist also gave us a cream to use in extreme cases, but on a daily basis here's what he said to do:
Give him a lukewarm bath (the hot water dries out the skin more), then barely pat him dry. We lather him up pretty generously each night after his bath with Aveeno oatmeal lotion that is fragrance free. Equate makes one that is equally as good. Put his pajamas (long sleeve and long pant) on over all the lotion, so he won't scratch. It took about a week of doing this each night to see a change, but if we are consistant to do it, we have noticed a lot less flare ups.

Hope this helps,
G.

Hi T.,
Hang in there--I know it's tough. My 8-yr old son has flare ups sometimes and my boyfriend's 11-yr old son has chronic eczema! His is so bad that sometimes his skin breaks and he bleeds! He has been to several dermatologists and one thing seems to be consistent--keep the skin moisturized. Use dye/scent free detergents and soaps. Wash will mild, perfume-free soaps like Dove. Use Vaseline to moisturize the skin. Oil of Olay lotion w/shea butter, Eucerin, and Aquaphor are all good lotions too. Good luck!! :)
