2 Year Old and a Broken Nose?

I am a little worried about my son's nose. He was jumping on the bed today, which I told him to stop before he would get hurt, but anyways, he fell off the bed and hit the dresser with his face. He split his lip and when he came to me his nose was also bleeding really bad. I stopped all the bleeding and now his cheekbone, lip, and half of his nose is really puffy and swollen. He won't let me wipe his nose at all and I am just curious as to if he may have broke it or not? It's not crooked but it's really swollen on the one side. Is there anyway to tell if it may be broken or should I take him into the doctor?
Thanks

I would call the dr and they may suggest he come in to make sure it's not broken and because you don't know for sure you would want to have it checked and that way you're not so nervous and uptight. If you ware so he will be too. so, it's probably best to have it checked and i don't what they can do about it but to relieve some anxiety on your part and on his too.
That is my thought on this.

Hi L.,
I'm all for not rushing in the a doctor's office unnecessarily, but suggest that you get the doctor's opinion at least. You could place a call to the office and see if they'd like to have him come in OR to go to the E.R. I wouldn't go to the E.R. without checking with the doctor, since it's not really an emergency and you might wait for hours surrounded by very sick people.

L.,

If his nose is extremely swollen, and there was quite a bit of bleeding, it would be best to have him checked by his pediatrician as soon as you can.

At two years old, the bones in his nose may not be fully formed, and may consist of mostly cartilege, but if he has knocked something out ofr place, it would be best to have it put back where it belongs before any bones start to develop, which could make the misalignment in his nose permanent.....better to be safe than sorry later!

Take him to the doctor. Any head injury should be checked out.

Take him to the doctor or ER. When my oldest son was about 3 years old I took him to the doctor for his regular checkup. His doctor took one long look at his face then asked me when he had broken his nose. I told him I didn't remember any time when he had hurt his nose enough to actually break it. He said it really doesn't take much to break a nose. The slightest bump can do it if it's hit "just right".

Can be breath through it? Even if it is broken as long as the bleeding has stopped -unless he cannot breath through it- they won't do anything until the swelling goes down. I would just place a call to the doctor and let them know, they probably will either have you come in so they can check it or have you come in when the swelling goes down.

I may be too late, but I can tell you that, even if it is broken, they will have to wait until the swelling goes down to treat it. Personally, I would ice it as much possible for the first 24 hours (when ice is most effective in minimizing swelling) and give him Tylenol for the pain and take him to the regular doctor. I hope it's not broken, but even if it is, the ER diagnose it and send you home with ice.

Also, if he can sleep reclined instead of flat (keeping his face somewhat elevated), that will help.

I would take him to the ER tonight, if it's broken and he hits it again it would be awful.

Dear L., Boys will be boys but this doesn't sound good. I think you should take him to the doctor. You did all the right things. Stopped bleeding etc. but you should find out for sure, although I do not know what can be done for a broken nose. It may need to be set to heal right. I will pray. Grandma Mary

Can u just take him to a hospital emergency room? That way if its broken they can fix it whereas a doctor may not.
Also it will teach him not to jump on bed anymore! Sorry he is hurt.

Take him to the doctor to make sure it's not broken. My husband broke his nose when he was younger, never got it checked out and now he has sinus problems and he snores and clearly has a deviated septum. Better to be safe than sorry.
