2 Y/o Toddler with Chicken Pox??? (HAD the Vaccine)

My toddler will be 2 y/o this Tuesday. He has this red bite mark (looked like a bug/spider bite of some sort) on his fore arm. It blistered (never pussed) and is scabbed over now. Well, after looking over his whole body he was fine. Then this AM I looked over and he had no new ones. This afternoon he has about 7 of the same "bites" but smaller on the side of his lower leg and now, more on the same arm on the opposite side. He has about 12-15 "bites" total. NONE on the face, back, belly, bottom of feet, NONE! Just one arm and one leg.

He has had the vaccine for CP. He has NO fever and is in GREAT spirits. NO other signs of ANYTHING. Very happy and healthy.

I have a 4 week old baby, can SHE get CP if this is what he has? I don't feel the need to rush him off to Urgent Care, especially since he doesn't have any other symptoms, especially a fever. But if the "bites" multiply quite rapidly over the weekend I will.

Has anyone ever heard of this? Experience this? Is my new born at risk? Should I try and keep him away from her?

What do I do?

Thanks in advance ;)

What can I do next?

it could be a viral infection and if it is it will go away on its own just watch your little one because it can get passed. if your 2 year old has been vaccinated for cp then i doubt that its that. if it last more then a week or gets worse i would get him checked out just to be on the safe side.

From what I know about chicken pox, they usually start on the torso and spread out from there. If he has none on the torso, I would guess it is not chicken pox. My husband had it a few years ago (awful experience for an adult especially) and they all started on his torso, spread to his face and head, then to his limbs. It was about 15 hours from the appearance of the first blemish until we figured out what it was. We then kept him away from our 4 1/2 month old son, but it was too late. 10 days after it started on my husband, our baby broke out. Started on his torso also, then spread to his head. It was very scary to me as a new parent, but he only got about 25 blemishes total, only one really blistered up very big (on the top of his head) and he never had a fever or complained one bit. I have heard that it is typically very mild for babies. I would be worried about a 4 week old getting it, that is just sooo young, but it sounds like what your son has is not the chicken pox.

Doesn't sound like chicken pox, but have no fear... he can still get it even with the vaccine. Whatever happened to the good old days of chicken pox parties? Anyways... yes your 4 week old can get CP. The incubation period is 21 days. Keep an eye on him just in case.

If it's chicken pox, odds are good your baby is probably already exposed because it's so darn contagious. From what I've heard, when babies get it it's usually not that big of a deal. But if he doesn't have a fever, I'm guessing it's something else, like hives or chigger bites or something. You can get chicken pox if you've had the vaccine, though. It's just rare.

Typically chicken pox will appear in moist and warm areas of the body first (i.e. underarms and groin area) coupled with a fever. I don't think you can even have chicken pox without the fever. What you are describing sounds more like bug bites. But even with the vaccine a child can still get chicken pox and it is usually less severe. If by some chance its chicken pox, your newborn is certainly at risk but she has already been exposed so watch her for a fever. I would recommend changing your sons bedding, doing a thorough cleaning of his room and applying a bug repellent throughout the day and before bed.
