2 Weeks Late, Negative Test, Has This Happened to You?

Here's a little bit of my background first:
I started AF when I was 10 years old and was regular for 2 years. Then my periods starting getting further and further apart. When I was 16, I only had 1 period that year so I started birth control to regulate myself. Everything was fine and normal for 6 years. I'm 22 now and stopped taking BC in February. We're not really ttc, but whatever happens, happens. After I stopped BC, I didn't have a period for 3 months (probably my body trying to regulate and get back to normal). Once I started my period in late May, I was pretty normal for the next 2 months. I had my period exactly 30 days apart until August. I was supposed to start August 28th. I had all the signs of starting. Breast tenderness and cramping, like always. But it never came. It's now mid September and I have a lot of pregnancy symptoms, but no positive test. I took a test a couple days after I was due for my period, but it turned up negative. Then my cramping persisted. Every day, I'll have period like cramps, and it feels like I started, but I'll go to the bathroom and nothing will be there. Also, my breasts have been very tender on and off, and I have been having a lot of discharge lately. More than usual. On top of that, I've been having hot flashes like crazy. I'm usually always cold, but now I'm always hot. Also, I have been peeing more frequently, and when I do pee, I just barely make it to the toilet and it comes shooting out like a race horse. have been cramping before bed every night since I was supposed to start. I took another test this morning and it came out negative, BUT this was an Electronic EPT and I had never taken one of those before, so when I went to pee, I had to go soooo bad, and was dancing around, unable to read the directions and I ended up peeing on the wrong side. Do you think this had anything to do with the negative test? Should I take the other test properly tomorrow morning, or wait another 2 weeks? By the way, my mother and grandmother both were diagnosed with endometriosis at my age and there is a possibility that I have it too, but have never tested for it with OBGYN. They said that I won't be able to know if I have it until I'm trying to get pregnant. What do you ladies think? Has anyone been in the same situation and ended up pregnant?

To everyone asking about what my doctor says; I've been on the other side of the country for the past 7 months, living on a mountain in the middle of nowhere (which is why I quit BC) But I'm going back home next month and I will be able to see my doctor then. I just don't like this waiting game. I guess by that time, I should probably have an answer though.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

So I finally started my period today. It's a lot lighter than usual and I'm extremely nauseous, which is not normal for me. 52 day cycle. Wow. My body is weird.
I wonder why I have irregular periods? I'm 5'1" and weigh 120. I consider myself to be very healthy with a good diet and exercise. Maybe I DO have endometriosis...

i'm guessing there are women somewhere who have been in a similar position and ended up pregnant.
probably some who ended up not-pregnant.
yes, doing the test incorrectly could cause incorrect results.
my tarot cards say you may or may not be pregnant.

It doesn't sound like your periods have ever been normal.
Please see a doctor/fertility specialist.
There's just too much going to for anyone on a web site to figure out what's going on.

For me, it would be worth 5 bucks at the dollar store to pick up a handful of regular old tests so I wouldn't keep stressing. I'd take one now, and have some extras in case something goes wrong, like using one of them improperly, dropping it, etc.

In your shoes, I'd redo the pregnancy test next week, and in the meantime, abstain from alcohol or any other substances that might harm a baby, just in case.

Even if you're not pregnant, it's time to see an OBGYN, because the things that are going on with your body could (aren't necessarily, but could) be indicators that something is amiss. Start keeping a log of symptoms - what's happening, and when it's happening, so you'll be able to give your practitioner an accurate picture of what is going on and the timeline.

Before I joined this site (about 9 years ago, I think), I never knew so many women thought having a regular period was normal. None of my friends, except the ones taking the pill, would be concerned about a day or two here or there. I lived in a college dorm for 4 years. Girls talk! No one I knew was that regular by nature.

I think a huge part of the problem is that you are analyzing the situation this carefully, and it's causing your body a great deal of stress.

When we were trying to conceive our second child, I took a pregnancy test when I thought I was probably a couple of weeks late. Negative. That seemed strange to us, as I sure felt the same way I did when I was pregnant with our oldest. I was feeling nauseous and had horrible heart burn and even threw up at the gas station on our road trip. Still, the test was negative. But the test I took the following week was positive!

The u/s showed that our son was probably conceived about 2 weeks later than the date of my last pregnancy indicated. The doctor said it's very possible that I was feeling stressed and ovulated later that month. It happens.

I think the best thing you can do is to stop over analyzing everything. Your body is not 100% percent predictable. If something feels off and it causes you concern, call your doctor. But it has been my experience that simply having a late period is generally not cause for concern.

If this is not normal for you, then see your OB or a midwife. Good luck.

This past January I had a super late period (like 45 days late) and did have some classic pregnancy symptoms. I was not pregnant. I went to my doctor who basically said it was a one off and she wouldn't be concerned until/if I went three months without a period. She did test my thyroid and it was normal. She said sometimes it just happens due to stress or because your hormones are wonky that month and need time to regulate themselves.

Since then, things have been normal.

There is always a chance to have a false negative but never a false positive. Although many thing effect your cycle such as diet, exercise, and stress level. Best thing to do would be talking to your doctor, they will be able to give you an answer right away. And help with any irregularity questions or concerns
