i took a pregnancy test at my dr. office i work at ( i'm a medical assistant) and it came up positive. i couldnt believe it so i did it again and that one came up positive too. the lines on booth were very apparent. these were both done the day i was supposed to start. i took another test the next morning and it came up negative twice. i used the same brand for all 4 tests ( dr office/clinic brand). i just got my blood draw today and should get the results tomorrow morning.. but i was wondering on any thoughts of what might be going on. my husband and i really want a baby so we are hoping that it comes back positive.. tests weren't expired .... i got the 2 positives first before the 2 negatives.... and all my friends are insisiting that i am.. but i just dont want to get my hopes up...

What can I do next?

False negatives are common but from what I understand, a false positive isn't possible so chances are you're pregnant. Maybe you drank loads of water before the second two tests? That could dilute the pregnancy hormone... Good luck!! Fingers crossed!

So what did the blood test say? I wonder if your body started gearing up for pregnancy but then it didn't take? Hope you will get your baby!

False positives can come from reading the test after the specified time (depending on the brand the reagent from the control strip can bleed back into the test area causing a second line). False negatives can be caused by urine that is too dilute. True positive can be followed by a true negative in the case of miscarriage, which should show on the blood test. It is highly unlikely that the levels of hormone would drop rapidly enough to cause strong positives one day and true negatives the next, but it is theoretically possible.

I would guess your pee was more concentrated when you first took the tests.

I have heard that you can have false negative but not usually have a false positive. I positive is 99% accurate.

Usually if you get a positive, especially two positives it would indicate pregnancy. Maybe the day you took them and got positive results you drank a little less so your urine was more concentrated or something. Being so early things like how much you have had to drink can effect the outcome. But I would say it sounds like pregnancy to me! Of course tomorrow you will know for sure, good luck:)

A friend I know did two tests at home "negative" a month apart. One at the doctor's "negative"...a month later she demanded a blood test and she was pregnant. When they did the ultrasound they found she was 13 weeks....pregnant all along!

An expired test can give you a false negative, I guess chances are slim that it was expired hm?

I was told that if it shows positive - it's positive but you can have a false negative... I would say the levels in your body were just different so more than likely you are prego!! Congrats :)

I think there is more chance of a false negative than a false positive. You might be pregnant. Remember how some are told not to spread the word until at least 12 weeks 'just in case?' The reason is the body may reject the embryo. I am not trying to be a downer, just saying what I have learned. I wish you all the best and a happy, joy-filled pregnancy!! Blessings to you! :)
