Help, I'm planning my son's 2nd brithday party and I need some ideas of indoor places in North Jersey. I want my son to have fun and not really do the reception hall thing.

I'd recommend Imagine That in Florham Park. It's a really, REALLY fun place -- there's about 30 "rooms" (walls 1/2 high) and each has different things like musical instruments, a pretend post office, a house with a cloth/plastic garden for the kids to plant, plus a room full of real vehicles -- fire engine, airplane, motorcycle -- that the kids can climb on, push the buttons, etc. I haven't had a party there, but they run them all day long and they sound fun -- you get to choose from a dance party/puppet show/face painting that's just for your party.

It's off of Route 24, just south of route 10.

BTW, I've taken my 17-month old there with his brother who is 4, and it's hard to say which had a better time!

Try the Newark or Montclair Museums. Both places have wonderful sights for the kids to see, a place for them to eat and would provide special tours for your party. It is really a lot of fun and educational.

You could also try FunPlex on Route 10 although it is geared a little more towards older children.

Jeepers at Jersey Gardens Mall in Elizabeth is great for age appropriate activities. Children love it. The have some great rides for the little ones.

Where are you located in Northern NJ? My friend had her son's 2nd year party and Kidnetic in Montville, NJ. Its like a kids gym. I believe their website is www.kidnetic.com

You should also check out imaginethat (children's museum) in Florham Park, NJ. It was a warehousehouse converted into a children's activity center. They also host parties. Try google to find their website.

The only places I can think of for age 2 in North Jersey are Kids Kingdom in Northvale, Funtime Junction in Fairfield or possibly the Children's Museum in Paramus (there's a similar children's type museum in Florham Park, but I've never been there). Been to parties at all 3 and they have nice play areas.

I do not recommend Chuck E Cheese in Paramus. Too small and crowded and bad pizza.

(If it were for an older child - I have a great bowling place to recommend, but not at age 2).

I'm celebrating my son's 2nd bday at Gymboree. They have several locations throughout NJ. We are members of Gymboree and take our son there every Saturday. The kids seem to enjoy it, so I hope the party is a success. Good luck w/ your planning.

Hi E.,
You can try a "Little Scoops" party if there is one near you, they are pretty nice. It also depends in the amount of kids you have coming. Build a Bear could also be nice. The Children's Museum in Paramus sounds good as well. Hope you have a great time no matter what you guys do. Happy Birthday to your son!
