2 1/2 Year Old with Bloody Nose

Couple of weeks ago a little boy that I watch hit our youngest with the car in the face and gave him bloody nose. It stopped fast and I did not think much of it. Well this morning I went to get him out of his crib and it looked like he got a bloody nose during the night. I was thinking maybe he just sneezed hard because there were splatters on the wall. We went about our day and just now he got another one.He acts fine, no fever or anything . But I am a bit concerned now.Just wanted to see if anybody has experienced anything like this. We do not have health insurance so trip to the doc is a last resort.

What can I do next?

There is a good chance that when your baby was hit it caused a small cut inside his nose that continues to open up and bleed. Take some neosporin and put it on a qtip and rub it inside his nostrils, this will keep it moistened just like if he had a cut on his leg or somewhere else. Make sure that he is not rubbing at his nose or putting his finger up it as this will increase the chance of the scab coming off. Keep using the neosporin 2-3 times a day for 4 or 5 days and it should make the scab heal up. If it goes on after that I would go see a doctor just to make sure nothing else is going on.

All 3 of my boys have random nose bleeds....it usually happens when their sinuses are agravated or dry. Try getting a cool mist humidfier for his room and running it at night when he is sleeping. If the nose bleeds continue for too long though, you may want to get a quick check at an Ugrent Care Clinic.

I'll tell you the only thing i know on this subject. When i was younger, say maybe 9 or 10 while visiting with my cousin at my grandma's house i slept on the floor that nite. My cousin had a little dog and i was scared he would wet on my pillow. As morning lite came in a wet spot was on my pillow. As it got lighter i could see it was blood, a lot and it was spattered on the wall in front of me. I came from my nose. It never happened again and i am 37 today. I was a random thing, i guess. I hope this helps.

Is he picking at it? if it's healing, it might be itchy.

also, it could be a coincidence and his nose could be growing. I would maybe put some vaseline inside his nose to help it heal and watch him. If it's gushing blood, I'd go see about it. if not, I would just keep an eye on him and make sure that he's not picking at it.

My middle son gets bloody noses all the time. His usually stem from the air being to dry. We get a large pot of water on the stove, bring to a boil then turn down on low and let it simmer(no lid) for a few hours. This gives the house humidity, thus adding moisture.

Since you know this started after injury it could be something in his nose that has been damaged. If his nose is tender to touch, bruising, discoloration around the nose area you may need to seek medical attention. In MO our insurance as well as the local childrens hospital had a nurse line. It was free of charge, and you could voice your concern to a registered nurse and receive information on what to do to help. I am not sure if that service is available in your area. God Bless!

you really should call a doc. Maybe a friend can call her doc and say it was her son just to see what they say. If it is serious, you will need to splurge. You may just watch it a day or two more but what if his nose is broken? He could have gotten a deviated septum? I am not a doc so I don't want to alarm you, just considering all options. I would prolbably just let it go a day or two and hopefully it is nothing.

try keeping it moist (advice from a doctor to us). run a vaporizer at night in his room. use a saline spray (buy at the drug store) and spray in his nostrils once-twice a day.
