I have a very strong willed 2 1/2 year old that needs glasses. Any advice on how to get him to wear them without it becoming a battle of wills? So far, I have shown him pic's of kids wearing glasses, let him try on his fathers glasses, explained they will help him etc. We ordered the glasses (total nightmare trying them on) We get them next week. TIA!

What can I do next?

Ok, I have NO advice except this: get the insurance!! My daughter got glasses a few months after turning two. Strong-willed is the understatement of the year to describe this child. :) We went through the one-time replacement warranty with both the frames and the lenses in the first six weeks. We then had to buy another pair and pay full price. After those were trashed (and super glued over and over) we finally switched to Target and got the insurance so that replacement pairs are like $25. PHEW. It has been about a year and a half now and we have had 5 different frames I think. She takes them off a lot, leaves them around, throws them on the floor when she's mad etc. Sometimes we can't find them for a whole day. It's been interesting to say the least.
Good luck! :)

Well, my oldest started wearing glasses at that age, but she really, REALLY needed them so it wasn't that hard for her to keep them on...they helped her see. Where we get glasses, they offer a lifetime replacement/repair on each pair of glasses, and it has nothing to do with our insurance. I'd try to find a place that specializes in children, because they can offer this. Fortunately, we've never had to take them up on the offer, but still, it's there if you need it.

Definitely get the insurance.

I had glasses in K and was very responsible with them but age 2? That's going to be hard. Hopefully the change in his vision will be a huge motivator for him. They also have "sport styles" that have the headband to help with keeping them on.

I love little boys in glasses! So cute!

My dad was an optometrist and fitted 18 mos olds with glasses. Once your child SEES better and functions better, you probably won't have too many problems. Having him try on your husband's glasses isn't a good thing, though. It's like having him try on your husband's shoes. It's not a fit. When you get his glasses, put them on him first thing in the morning, and take them off the last thing before turning off the light at bedtime. He'll get used to the routine.

I feel you, our daughter got glasses a couple of months before her third birthday. I had similar concerns, but honestly, it hasn't been the ordeal I thought it would be. She REALLY needs glasses so she wears them, that may be one of the only advantages to having to get them at such a young age.
We did get two pair (Eye Masters had a special), and we got insurance on one pair. We have replaced one pair because she broke them in time out, but insurance covered it. I like letting her choose which pair to wear, I think it helps with the days when she just isn't that excited about wearing them.
We did what you guys are doing before hand, my husband wears glasses all of the time which really helped. I hope your son adjusts easily!

My daughter got her first pair of glasses at the age of 3. She was having very bad headaches/the lights hurt her eyes. She actually was very happy to get her glasses; She also had Strabismus, so I'm sure the glasses helped her seeing enormously.

I wear glasses (I can't wear contacts and have dry eye, so eye surgery is out), so my daughter thought it was very special that she got to wear glasses like her mommy. Do you or someone your son likes in your family wear glasses, so he can feel special like mommy or grandpa to be able to wear glasses?

They also have a special band you can put on the frame that fits around a child's head so that the eyeglasses stay on; it's pretty common to see them on very young babies/toddlers. Maybe you can use something like that with your son?

the best way to keep them on is to show him how well he can see with them. show the trees, the cartoons on tv, the brighter colors. if he can see with them he will wear them. if they arent helping, my kid was one of those, and he wont keep them on, seek a second opinion. the pedi opthomlogist we took our eldest too had a tech do her exam, not the MD, she never used the eye chart just the scope, they over charged my insurance, $600 for a very frusterating 30 min expierence with just the tech, then had us buy glasses we later learned we never needed.
