Hello,

My husband and I are actually going to get to go out this year to celebrate our 14 year anniversary, first night out in at least 3 years. Only problem is that we haven't a clue what to do. We really don't want to go see a movie, dinner would be fine but would like to do something afterwards. Any ideas? We live in the Cincinnati area.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for all your suggestions! We went on the BB Riverboat Queen for a cuise and dinner. It was a ton of fun, couldn't have asked for a better night out.

I would like to suggest a comedy club. You can eat there if you choose. It's funny, inexpensive and doesn't keep you out to late. My husband and I thought it made a great date night place.

How about wine tasting, or a fondue place and feed each other. Regain that closeness that you may have lost. Take a walk in the park or do a picnic. Find a dinner/ play that might be taking place. Go to a concert. Make spa appts. for both of you to relax.

Okay,
Good Luck.

Wow, girl! You guys need to get out more often! Congratulations on your 14th anniversary! I was thinking you could have dinner at Newport on the Levee or downtown and take a walk along the river or across the Purple people bridge. I like the comedy club idea too. There's one at Newport that I've been to. Whatever you do, have a great time and try not to think about the kids for once!

Go down to the Kentucky side, and go over to the Covington Landing and just walk around. There are some bars right on the river there, and there is a section of shops a few blocks on the Kentucky side, which I can't think of the name of that area right now, but there is a neat little tower where musical figures come out every 30 min., sometimes there are horse carriage rides (there is a cost for that), there is B&B Riverboats there, which is really cool. If you go down to the river area, make sure to wear something warm!!!! This time of year in the evening, it will be cold on the river.
Are you AAA?? Get the tour book for Ohio and look under Cincinnati and you will find numerous things to do.
IF you can afford to do a real nice meal ($15--$25), then you have to do the Riverview restaurant which is just on the Kentucky side. It has the revolving restaurant right on the river. It is the coolest thing, it revolves while you eat, and it takes about one hour to go around once and that is about how long your meal will take from sit down to finish. I've been there about 4-5 times in about 15 yrs.
Someone will have to help me out here on this one, I can't find it in the AAA book. Is it not in business anymore??? It's been there for MANY MANY YEARS.
If you decide to do this, you NEED reservations or you might have a very long wait!!!!! Even with reservations sometimes I've waited up to 30 min., but it is well worth it. The food has always been wonderful too.
The whole Covington Landing area is neat to just walk around.
But try AAA book, or go to Cincinnati, and then things to do. You'll find more than you ever knew was there.

If you like music and enjoy singing there is always Karaoke (I can't spell spit this morning, sorry) and some of the nicer places have a dance floor as well. If you like theater you might try a dinner theater. If you like concerts try looking in your local paper for what is available that night.
I guess you could go bowling, if you enjoy it. Maybe a carriage ride through a park.
Not knowing what your interests are it is hard to help you out much, sorry.

A comedy club is a great idea! Do they have a House of Blues in Cincy? Or something similar? A piano bar is a lot of fun too. Most of them serve dinner as well. You could just do a search of things to do in your area. I'm sure Cincinnatti has a ton of things to do. Have fun on your night out! :D

Hello R.,

My husband and I went to the LaComedia Dinner Theatre for our anniversary. It was alot of fun and they have anniversary packages, where you get a small cake and champagne too. It's located not horribly far from Cincy, in Springboro. You can look it up on the internet, I do know the Full Monty is playing right now.

Have a wonderful time in whatever you choose to do.

B&B Riverboats has some fun late night cruises. They have a bar and a dance floor, or you can go upstairs on the deck and just enjoy the evening. It does get chilly up there though, so take a jacket. Burbanks in Evendale is fun. They have a live jazz band most evenings, I think. My husband loves to take his friends there when we visit. There was a comedy club in the Carew Tower, it was nice, but if not there should still be plenty of others around. You can go to Fountain Square and take a carriage ride around the city, that would be nice this time of the year. Valley Vineyards in Morrow, has a great steak grill Fridays. You get to cook your own steak on a huge outside grill and lots of yummy sides to go with it, plus a bottle of wine. It's a really nice evening. I grew up in the Cincinnati area, then moved away when I got married. Columbus doesn't have near the great nightlife that Cincinnati has. Get out and enjoy what you have. I miss that so much!

A quick search online gave me Minnatrista Gardens, the Ball Art Museum, the Broadview Farms has Arabian Horses or take in a show at the Muncie Civic Theater Association. I hope these ideas help. If you live in Indy you can simply do an online search for "Things to do in Indianapolis", that should give you some good ideas.

Some fun ideas:

Contact your local historical society for walking tours or museums. I saw the idea about a river boat ride that's a four star event with me. When we were down in Cincinnati years ago we did that. Yes, it was BB River Boats.

Other ideas: take in a ball game, or go on a hay ride. Find an outlet or antique mall, spend some time at a flea market. Flea markets not only have closeouts but also fresh farm produce.

Did you or your husband graduate from college? Contact those schools for fun alumni events. They would help you stay in touch with old classmates and get out of the house.

These suggestions would certainly get you OUTDOORS and enjoy the fresh fall air. Talk to your family and friends.
Keep us posted on the fun.

What about the Newport Area? You could have dinner there and enjoy the little area. We went there a couple of weeks ago and had a blast just hanging around and just enjoying the time (and a night off of the kids). It was fun! Hope you enjoy your night out too!!

R., congratulations on 14 years. I'm not sure on when you are wanting a night out but there is a park north east of you on state route 68 just south of wilmington Oh. called cowan lake they have cabins, trails, boat rental, fishing, you can get a cabin with a hot tub. It would justt be peace and quiet and together time for the two of you. They have a web site and i'm sure you can google cowan lake and get more info, my husband and I have thought about it several times but we are both truck drivers and just enjoy being home without traveling when we are home. Good luck to you and once again congratulations !!!

Hello, You could have dinner at one of the places on the river. I always love going to eat at one of the places on the river and standing on the deck and enjoying the view and talking while waiting. You also could take a boat cruise through BB riverboats or take a dinner cruise. I also have taken a horse and carriage ride through Cincinnati. It was very nice to ride at night through Cincinnati. You should get a Citybeat (it's free) or go to their website. They have everything in there to let you know what's happening. You should definitely be able to find some ideas in there. You've gotten lots of great responses already, but I'd also recommend the Newport Aquarium.

I'm in NE Ohio, so I don't know what's available in your area, but I had a few ideas: wine tasting, take a dance class or just go dancing at a local club/bar/??, attend a poetry reading (check with local coffee shops, libraries), go to a haunted house (not sure if that's your style, just throwing it out there), go to the mall and window shop or start Christmas shopping (especially at stores that do lay-away), go to a hotel (with no kids you could actually take a bubble bath, uninterrupted...among other things <wink>). Just a few ideas I had. Let us know what you guys end up doing!

My son goes to UC. When we go down to see him, we always end up at Mt. Adams. There are tons of restautants there; just park and wander the quaint streets til something looks good. (We like Teak) The parking lot by Rookwood Pottery has the best view in the city; we love to just sit there on the wall and talk. If the weather is crummy, go to Krohn Conservatory in Eden Park. (I'm always a sucker for a garden!)

GO OUT MORE!!!

How about dinner and a museum? Do something where you can still interact with each other. Or how about a cooking class, where the class eats what they prepared. It's always good to laugh together. Just the fact that you're going out is great! Maybe now that your kids are getting a little older, you could go out more often. It would be so good for all of you.

What about diner and dancing somewhere. Or maybe a long walk together special time for talking just make sure it's an early dinner the parks close at dusk. Do you play pool or throw darts? Many of the smaller local bars have pool tables and dart Machines. If you live near the St. Bernard area Meiner's cafe while not fancy has a nice menu and has pool and darts. I am sure they would also not mind if you dsnced to the music it might start something. I know there are some dance clubs out there but am no longer in contact with the in the know people might take some phone calls to find them. Are any of the museums open late or the aquarium. They would be something I personally would get into. I also don't like going to the movie as a couple he like different kinds of themes than I do.

There's a new restarant and comedy club at Levis Commons that is really fun. The restarant is called Fat Fish Blue and the comedy club is inside-it's called The Funny Bone. It's located towards the back of Levis Commons by the new hotel. I think that you need to call for reservations for the comedy club. Have fun!

I agree with others when they mention the comedy club thing. We always have fun doing that and it tends not to get too expensive. There are alot of "fall" things to do too. Maybe a nice drive to a special spot for dinner? Like amish country? That would allow you to enjoy the weather and take the time to talk and enjoy each others company. If none of things are your type of thing you can look on digitalcity.com for other ideas. There are alot of websites for different cities that offer activities and there is usually a section with ideas for free things to do if you are on a budget.

Whatever you do, have fun!

My husband and I like to go miniature golfing. It is fun and relaxing. It gives us a chance to talk and have fun together. I don't know the Cincinnati area but you can check to see if there is an indoor mini golf course. We have one on our area (Youngstown) and we love it because we can go year round. Good luck finding something to do.

Well, congrats on your first night out in 3 years. Enjoy it...and then make it a more regular event. Your marriage will appreciate the effort, I guarantee it! :) Anyway, what about the Newport Museum. I also like the idea of a comedy club. I'm not sure what the weather's like down there now (I'm up in the Cleveland area) but perhaps dinner and then a stroll in the park. I'm an outdoorsy girl...so I'm good with an evening of cat-fishing and picnic in a remote little area somewhere. :) There's also bowling, shooting pool somewhere, or hitting a place like Dave & Busters (I thought there was one down in that area) to play some adult games. Whatever you do, savor every moment!
