So What Happened?

Thank you ALL for each and every wonderful idea! You guys were SO helpful!!! I picked him up from daycare and took him to the local park and got some awesome outdoor pics of him (I picked out my fave) and framed it. Then I picked up a Clipo Activity Table with extra Clipo blocks (you can google) and the Leap Frog Birthday Cake (super cute!). Last, but not least, I got him a special "homemade" card and am writing him a letter (a keepsake) about the past year...Things that have happened, memories I have with him, etc. Did I do okay?!

Is he walking? My son wasn't walking at 1. His favorite toy was a Mater (from the movie Cars) toy that you can push or ride on and the seat lifts up so you can put things in it. He would put some toys in it and push it all over the house! He's 2 1/2 now and he will still ride on it and push it around some.

My daughters favorite first birthday presents that she still plays with were some stacking buckets and the wooden puzzles with about 6 pieces that have nobs on them. She still plays with them to this day (she is 2 now). If you want to spend more than that, put the rest into a savings bond. He is really not going to know what is going on anyways......

Stat his college fund and put yourself as the trustee, so no one can touch it until he begins college. If he doesn't go to college, he will at least have a nice nest egg.

Blessings.....

I got this O.!
When my son turned O., my best friend got him the most awesome birthday hat! Though it seems frivolous, 8 years later, it is the ONLY first birthday gift that he got that I remember! Adorable and special! Perfect from his favorite auntie, right?

It was kind of like this:

At that age, my son was in love with blocks and trucks. We got him a big bucket of wood blocks and he had a dump truck that he could load them into and dump them out of. He still plays with them daily (for hours!).
And I always, always, always think that books are great. We always get our nieces and nephews one toy (or clothing, or craft stuff) and one book for each birthday/holiday. Even at one my son would sit down and "read" his board books.

Lots of things with any lights, bright colors, and interactive games are great.

Does he have a favorite tv show? Like Sesame Street? My son loves SS and we got him an Elmo doll that talks. He goes nuts every time I pull him out haha.

Riding toys
Water/sand tables
A kiddie pool for warm weather!

Something personal that is even more for mom than for him. I got my niece a nice plaque with her name on it and what her name means. My sister cried! My neice is 5 and it's still up on her bedroom wall.

The other toy ideas are great, too. Maybe one of each - a nice toy and something sentimental?

Both my kids loved toys they could stand and push at one year old.
I also have an Incredi-block from Fisher Price that all my little daycare kids love!! It keeps them busy and gives a reason to stand up. You can get it new from the Fisher Price website cheaper than a used one on Ebay if you count shipping, but is is pretty pricey...about $50 last time I checked.

Well, I've taken to getting a gift for the parents - Mabel's Labels for all the toddler stuff kids get and it all looks just the same as their friends. Those labels hold up VERY well so they are well worth the price. mabelslabels.com.

A friend also gave DD a bowl/plate/sippy cup/silverware set for her 1st that we liked.

Here are some unique gifts:
1. A star in his name
2. A share in a stock (ex: Disney)
3. Start a time capsule, with a letter from you and things from the past year
4.Custom plates/bowls
5. A ticket to Disneyworld (you can buy this at any disney store and it does not expire forever!)

Go to a furniture store and get a big cardboard box and turn it into a house with a little duct tape and he will be in heaven. Boxes are always the best!
