Two of my favorite anniversaries with my hubby were spending the day at the Lake Austin Spa and a trip w/o kids. They were both fantastic bonding experiences and relaxing. Neither cheap, however.

Congrats on your first year of marriage and doing so much as well! My husband and I had a similar year...got married and had twins 4 months later! It was amazing...for our first year (which is symbolized as 'paper', if you follow that!), I made him an ABC book of our relationship. For each letter of the alphabet, I came up with things that we either did together, jokes we had, things we had shared, etc....I did it all on the computer, and either used clip art to illustrate each word, or an actual picture from our photos. I laminated each page at Staples, and had them spiral bind it, so it really looked like a book. On each page there were about 3 or 4 things with that letter...for example - K is for....Key West, Kayaking, Kissing on the rocks...I called the book The ABC's of You and Me! He absolutely loved it....it went with the first anniversary paper theme, and we had just had the babies, so the ABC theme seemed appropriate. If that feels like too much...There is something else I did for him (that a good male friend did for me)...I decorated a small wooden box for him and inside I had folded construction paper hearts. On each heart (there was probably 100), I had written a memory of a special time we shared, or an inside joke, or a quality I love about him....He still goes to the box every now and then to pick out a heart and remember something...I gave it to him for our first Valentines Day about 4 years ago...it still sits on his dresser! Anyway....I'm sure you will come up with something great.....I happen to like these more personal gifts for special occasions!! good luck and let us know!!!

Hi Kat. Congrats. What about a collage of your first year together -- pics, wedding invite, hospital bracelet etc....and frame it.

wow -you and your hubby went through a LOT for one year! Seems like a scrapbook of some sort to record all these events would be a memorable gift.
And a cute idea a friend of mine has - each member of her family's Christmas stocking has some little charm, applique, or other little item to represent something significant that happened that year and she adds a new item to each stocking each year

The first anniversary is the "Paper" (traditional) or "Clocks" (modern) anniversary. Can you think of some way to incorporate one or both? A nice watch inscribed on the back? A book of love letters? I heard someone say that their spouse saved all the emails and letters from their first year and then had them bound - that's pretty cool:)

As others have said - paper is the traditional gift and it sounds like the 2 of you could really use a couples massage.... so, how about a spa gift certificate for a massage?

Happy Anniversary!

I know an elderly lady who had a special coin for each anniversary. It was a tradition her husband started on their first anniversary and continued until he passed away. Maybe you could get a special box/chest or special bank. Then put a dollar coin from "2010" in it this year, a dollar coin from "2011" next year, and so on... It may not seem like much right now, but in a few years, it will hold a lot of memories!

Then have a nice, quiet evening together!

For our first anniversary I had a beautiful wooden box engraved with "Annual Love Letters" on the front and wrote a love letter (on paper!) to him which I put in the box. The idea is to save all the love letters in this keepsake box and add one at least every anniversary.

Well, happy anniversary to ya! For our first anniversary, we were so pooped from the year of adjustment that we just wanted a quiet evening together. We went out for a nice dinner and then went to the house of some friends and hung out and drank wine and took pictures.

Happy Anniversary!!The first anniversary is the "Paper" (traditional) or "Clocks" (modern) anniversary.

How about making an small album book from Shutterfly.com or any... Just make it together from your wedding to now pictures together with your baby. Or just give him a watch with engraved name or not. Or make papers to surprise him on your anniversaray as coupons to set up a night out with him like go to Astro tixs together, out to eat, movies, one night at hotels, or so..

Have fun!!:)
