19 Weeks Pregnant, Sore Throat with White Spots, Do I Need to See a Doctor??
I am 19 weeks pregnant and I am wondering if I need to see a doctor about a sore throat with white spots? I do not have a fever, but I feel tired and weak. Its only on one side, red and inflamed with a couple of white spots. I know that the stuffy nose is a normal part of pregnancy but is this also? Do I need to see my GP or ok to just watch it?

Not a normal part of pregnancy. Doctor visits are though. So at least call NOW if you don't have an appt in the next few days.

Go to the doctor. I had toncillitus (sp?) when I was younger, had the white spots, sore throat and all. I had to be on antibiotics. He'll know what kind of antibiotics you can take. Better safe than sorry.

I would be slightly more cautious due to the pregnancy..
So if you have been sick for 2-3 days and are not improving.. see your regular dr..I asked my OB to look at my hurting ear when I was preg... and my OB did not even have an ear scope thingee when I complained about my ear hurting..

Sounds like strep throat, which will make you sick but shouldn't harm youur baby. Go see your doctor to get tested and antibiotics to clear it up.

A sore throat with white patches can be a strep infection and you would need antibiotics. I've had several strep throats and they have always affected both sides. A strep sore throat is very sore. The sorest sore throat you've ever had.
I've had other sore throats that were viral infections that started out just on one side and eventually infected both sides. The only thing that you can do for them is palliative. Warm tea with honey soothing throat lozenges or sprays, that sort of thing. I've never been comfortable drinking really hot liquids. Gargling with warm salt water may help reduce the white patches.
I suggest calling your doctor's advice nurse and asking if you need to be seen. Your gp; not your ob/gyn. An ob/gyn is too specialized for sore throats. lol

Sounds like strep. Yes, you do need to see the dr. In the meantime, gargle with salt water.

See your OB or GP for a throat culture. There's no way to tell if it's viral or possibly strep without a culture. Better to be safe than sorry especially since you are pregnant. Get well soon. R., midwife mom of 3.

Some people throw up when they have strep, some people get extreme sore throats, some people dont get them as bad. Have them swab your throat, but dont wait too long, youve got to swab /treat for bacteria while the infection is in the early stages- I think.
