19 Month Old with Swollen Lymph Nodes on Neck and Very Large Tonsils

my daughter had the lymph nodes 'bumps' that took a couple YEARS to go away after her year long bout with strep throat when she was little. They didn't bother anyone but me (who was in an almost constant state of panic wondering if she had any number of rare but horrible diseases - all of which were NOT true, so if the Dr is not concerned take his advice and try to not worry).

I am wondering.... did the Dr check for mono? I know is the 'kissing sickness' or whatever and 19 months would be kind of young, but he might want to check it out if she the other symptoms and its NOT strep or tonsilitis.

probably they will remove the tonsils and adenoids (if she is snoring badly at night) - not sure what age they do this, but my nephew had his out at like 3 and by now it's almost an outpatient procedure - he was admitted, but released that night.

Large adenoids can also cause snoring, some people's tonsils/adenoids get infected very easily and that would explain the swollen lymph nodes, especially with her recent strep. My sis used to get strep about 5 times a year, and I never got it... yet I was the one who had my adenoids removed b/c they were so enlarged, lol! I'm sure she will be okay, it sounds like your Dr is taking good precautions. :)

Toddlers get enlarged lymph nodes at the drop of a hat - colds, viruses, Strep - doesn't necessarily mean there is anything serious going on. If you are worried, just straight out ask your ped if you should be. I bet they say no.

My now 8 year old has had this problem since he was 1 year old...not sure what the cause of it is...

The nodes on the side of his neck can protrude like the knobs on Frankenstein...strep tests negative, no sinus infection, no fevers, blood tests reveal nothing...

ENT says it's allergies....however, giving him claritin doesn't necessarily make them go away....it's frustrating but NOT bothering him.

We do take him in when they get enlarged, then run tests, can't find anything that glares at them on blood tests....on several occasions they have given him antibiotics for a sinus infection, they go away for months then come back.....

I know this isn't much - but you are not alone. Talk to your ENT and see what they say!!
