18 Month Old, CAN SINGULAIR CAUSE RASH?

If you need a second opinion regarding the itching, you might want to bounce this off your pharamacist who also might be able to offer you suggestions which you could take to your pediatrician...or just seek another peadiatrician's opinion.
Your child's clothes and sheets could have been washed in a detergent which has a chemical that is erratating him.
THereis a website that you might want to contact in order to verify any chemicals which may adversely affect your child's skin. It comes out of the Niational Instittute of Health. Your pedicatrician or pharmacist may know the web address.

Look at the insert that is in the pamphlet for the singulair. I would think about making switching to zyrtec. i give it my two year old son and he does not have any issues. I think he has seasonal allergies and i started giving it to him and he stopped coughing with the post nasal drip and it really seemed to help. You can give it to children two years and older. The other good thing is that they sell it over the counter. I get two of the liquid zyrtec's for seventeen bucks at BJ's. There are always coupons out for it and it comes in bubble gum flavor. My son does not mind taking it.

Go with your gut! If you can't find anything else that is causing the rash it could be the singulair. My son got a rash from Prilosec and my ped said that it wasn't the prilosec, but as soon as I stopped the prilosec, the rash got better.

My son's allergist put him on that medicine as well, but if I remember correctly, it is very specific about what you sprinkle it in. The list was really short and the only thing we ever put it in was applesauce. It was the only thing on the packaging and according to the pharmacist we could add it to that we could possibly get him to eat --he's a very picky eater and at the time he only ate oatmeal. Double check and make sure milk is on that list (my son has a milk intolerance, so he drinks soy milk). Maybe it's something as simple as switching the food source.

My cousin's son got a rash from that medicine and the doctor took him off it immediately. he was 7.

i also heard on the news one morning not too long ago that singulair has caused depression in kids.

reactions might be rare but obviously they do happen. if that's the thing you've changed then common sense says that's probably what's causing it.

be pushy and make the dr switch to a different medicine, "just to see"

Yes, singulair can cause a rash. You could take him to a dermatologist. They will be able to tell if the rash is caused by a drug or by something else.
A dermatologist would know more than a PCP. For that matter a allergist would know more than a PCP.

Go to an Allergist Dr. for your baby.

In the mean time, go to the health food store and get your baby some friendly bacteria or probiotics to help with his immune system. You can also get some Hyland vit c for infants.

Take him off the singulair for 1 week and see if it gets better, if it does you have your answer. You could put him on liquid Claritin in the meantime or just let the allergies go for a week.

I would strongly suggest going to an allergist. If it happens when he takes the medicine, I would bet that is what is bothering him. Pediatricians are not great at dealing with everything. Sometimes a specialist is necessary. They can easily test your child and find out the real problem. Good luck

My son has been on Singulair for a while now and has never had a problem. Not to say that it isn't the case with your son. Take him off for a week and then reintroduce. See if you can use Zyrtec for his seasonal allergies-we use that also and it works wonders.

One more idea: could it be sunscreen? My little boy is very allergic to SS and can only use the Neutrogena Free kind. He would break out in an itchy rash from the others.

If all else fails see an allergist. They are much better informed than the pediatrician IMO.

All these ideas could be right. another thing to think about is milk allergy. Is he getting more milk than usual because you're giving the medicine in it? My son used to get a rash when he got too much milk or ice cream. as long as I limited his intake we kept the rash at bay. I think he's outgrown it now since he's almost 4.

Does she have excema maybe? Did your doctor rule that out? A. I started shopping at a store that has no harsh and harmful chemicals in their products.
