15Mth Old Shows Not Interest in Walking
I have a 15mth old who shows absolutely NO interest in learning how to walk. When me and my husband try to stand her up to enable her to learn balance she screams like crazy. I have consulted my pediatrician and he says that she will walk when she is ready but this concerns me. Has anyone ever encountered this issue?
So What Happened?™
HOORAY !!!! Thanks for all of your responses!!! My baby finally walked.. she just let go of the table and started walking..She has been non-stop since then.

My 4th child walked at 12 months, but her brothers walked much earlier. I thought I'd tell you about my sister's kids. Her oldest didn't walk until he was around 17-18 months old. I remember, he would ROLL all over the floor to get where he was going. There were no problems, he just wasn't ready.
Her second child was a bit different. She had problems with her legs or feet, or something...can't remember...anyway, once they took her to the chiropractor, she began crawling, walking right after that. I guess she was out of sorts with her body and the Chiropractor fixed it and helped her on her way. She was in pain before and couldn't do what she wanted to do.
Is your screaming because she doesn't want to or is there an actual problem? Just a thought.

Some children avoid doing things for themself b/c they want you to continue to do it for them.My first child never would hold his sippy cup b/ we got in the habit if holding it up for him when he first was starting out and he enjoyed the attention. He also never crawled....ever.I do think it is odd for her to cry and scream but it may just be because she is afraid of falling.Me and my husband use to sit across from one another on the floor with our feet toaching and stand my son up and encourage him to walk from one of us to another. My second just up and started standing and walking trying to keep up with my oldest.

hello, i have a 17 month old boy who just started walking about a month ago. At 15 months he was doing the same thing as yours, showed absolutely no interest in walking. I would stand him up and try and hold his hand to walk and he would just scream and sit back down. i started getting really worried because my 2 year old walked at 10 months. Don't worry about it, as long as he can walk pushing things, i really wouldnt worry about it. everyone told me it was fine unless their not walking by 18 months. And just to let you know he went from not walking at all, and the next day he woke up and decided he was going to walk. she will do it when shes ready!! hope this helps becasue iknow exactly how you feel.

Does she pull up to a stand?
My fourth child didn't walk until 18 months, and she is perfectly fine (now 5 years old). My fifth child is 13 months and isn't interested in learning to walk yet. Hang in there a few more months.

My best friend has a son that was very late walking. Your Dr. should have advised you of an age to start to be concerned. I would bet you money that your daughter needs further evaluation since she does not want to put weight on her feet. She may have a sensory problem. Her feet may be very sensitive. You can treat this with a physical therapists help. Try brushing her soles with a hair brush to see if she giggles or pulls her feet away. The other issue that can cause problems is when they have diminished muscle tone. Again a therapist can help overcome that as well. My friends son had both issues he is now running and happy at a little over 2 years old.
Best of Luck to you and your little one.
