14 Month Old Not Walking??
I am just wondering at what age should I become concerned for my baby girl not walking? My son walked at 9 months and she is not even interested at 14 months. Her hips have always been real loose, but the doctor said she is ok. Iam just concerned b/c it looks like it will atleast be a few more months if she got interested in trying.
She does not have any other delays that I see.
Also she does pull up on furniture and sometimes will cruise along for a step or two.
She is getting heavy to carry..24 lbs.
So What Happened?™
Thank you all for sharing. I won't get worried yet.

C.,
My 7 year old started crawling at 6 mo., pulling up at 7, but didn't walk until 13 mo. Yet, even now she can hardly walk a straight line w/ out tripping. My 4 year old didn't even start crawling until about 10 mo., didn't pull up until about 13 mo., maybe 14, then walked at 17 mo. Today, she's very athletic, coordinated & agile. Babies do all develop within ranges. I wouldn't start stressing over it just yet.

Here is what I have figured out about my 3rd child, who I forsee wont walk until 14-15 months either at this rate. He is an observer, not a doer.(If that makes sense). He watches everything very intensely, and it seems like he is not willing to try new things until he is confident he can do it. He only started crawling about 3 weeks ago, but you wouldnt know it now. He crawls like a pro, so it really seems like he just wanted to wait it out. My girls were very willing to give things a try, and try, and try again until they mastered it. So I would watch her personality in other aspects, is she more shy, or does she tend to observe more at first to get comfortable?? Hopefully she will be walking before you know it, and I bet she will take less spills than your son did, that could be nice too :) Good Luck! ~A.~

My first son walked at 13 months, although he had been crusing since 7 months. My other son walked just 2 days before he turned 15 months. He was capable but just didn't want to. I wouldn't stress over it at all, especially if your doc isn't worried.. Although, I know it's hard not to when other little ones are walking and yours isnt. I went through that too.

I wouldn't freak out about it. All 3 of my boys walked at 15 1/2 months. With my twins I was a little concerned but I realized that it was just more convenient for them to crawl and that they had pretty good muscle control. Just remember, all babies are different. Just because one walks before another doesn't really give you an indication that anything is wrong. If their pediatrician isn't concerned I wouldn't worry either. I'm sure she will be running around in no time!

Children develope skills at their own rate. My second daughter didn't start crawling until she was 9mos. and the day she started walking, she was 15mos. old. She was so excited at finding she could walk, she didn't just walk, but RAN all over the house for 4 solid hours! She then layed down for her nap and slept the rest of the day, night and into the next day!

Hi C.,
Isn't is crazy how those little ones and every move they make or not make can cause so much stress. They are all so unique and owner's manuals would be awesome. As long as you've to the doctor and they haven't seen anything that is hindering your daughter it is just a waiting game. You never know, she may be the one who one day just starts running. That's been known to happen :) Don't worry, your daughter is going to be ready when she is ready. On the lighter side, enjoy the time you have now without both of them running around your house :)
Have a great one!

Girls usually start walkin faster than boys do but I wouldn't panic yet. My nephew just turned 1 on 2/28 and he started trying to step the day b 4. He still likes to jump down and crawl b/c he does it and gets to his destination faster. Have u tried getting her one of those pushing toys that may have lights or music on it? That's what I used for my 2 (now 7 and 5). She'll be fine. Oh, and also like my nephew..He's a heavy weighter himself and they have to get used to and adjust to holding their own weight up.

My youngest little girl didn't start walking until she was 19 months. She is a very active 2 yr old and you wouldn't know that she was a late walker. One thing I did buy was a walker that she could push that she used for months until I hide it from her cause she was using it as a cruch and she was fine after that. My doctor suggested that we have her tested and all her motor skills test were fine. I thought she would never walk but she did eventually. I know it is difficult carrying her when you think she should be walking. She will eventually be out there running around and no one ever really know.

My son didn't walk until 14 1/2 months and now he runs at 17 months. No worries. When they walk they have a lot more accidents. My son fell yesterday at daycare and now has a black and blue brow.
