11 Month Old Not Eating a Lot!

Hi Mamas! I'm new at this and don't if I should be worried. My 11 month old is not taking his formula as much as he usually does. He started table foods about 2 months ago...could this be why? He has a 6 oz. bottle for breakfast and finishes that off, no problem. He eats fruit and veggies for lunch and about an hour later, we follow up with another 6 oz. bottle (which he hasn't eaten much of the last two weeks)...he takes another 6 oz. bottle about 4 hours later (doesn't finish that either), and several hours later he eats some more fruits and veggies for dinner, and then we top him off with another 6 oz. bottle (which he doesn't finish) right before bedtime. He's only eating about 4-5 oz. now!!! Am I trying to feed him too much? He was eating all of this and was still hungry for more about 2 weeks ago! He hasn't been sick or anything...should I be worried??? Thanks for the help!!

What can I do next?

Do not worry, it seems once the get closer to a year and develop a taste for table food that formula starts to fade. (at least that is what happened with mu daughter) I would not worry about it, a baby will eat if he/she is hungry. Also he could have been going through a growth spurt a few weeks ago and that is why he is was eating more. My dd will go through phases were she will eat everything in sight and the next day I have trouble getting her to eat anything. I wouldn't worry, just monitor it and if it still is an issue talk to your doctor about it at the one year checkup.

I would not be worried at all. From what you say he is eating, he is doing excellent. My son stopped wanting his formula as much also at about 10 months. I started letting him have regular milk because I too was worried and wanted him to at least have something with calcium aside from his food. That worked great, I know Dr.s want them to stay on formula until at least a year but my son is now 8 and he is a perfect, happy, heathly, right-on-track with his weight and height. Hope this helps!

Hi Mom! It sounds like your little guy is getting enough to eat right now. I have 3 kids, 21 yr old girl, 19 yr old son, 8 yr old son and a 13 month old grandson. They all started eating table food by 7 months and cut down on their bottles a lot. With our grandson we started mixing his bottles, 1/2 milk and 1/2 formula, by 8 months. If your little guy is drinking other things besides his formula, this will cut back the formula also. We offer our grandson a choice, always at hand, his milk or a cup of juice. With the weather getting warmer you may find that he wants more of something else to drink other then the formula. Sounds like he's a growing boy. They all go through cycles where they eat and eat, then they eat like birds, hardly nothing. He's eating fruits and veggies, so I don't believe I'd be worried too much, if he's getting enough. What a WONDERFUL Mom you are, to have him eating so healthy at such a young age!! Pat yourself on the back and keep watching him grow! Good luck to you. I think it sounds like you are doing what needs to be done!

I wouldn't worry too much, unless he's irritable, not sleeping, and showing signs of a fever. He might just be cutting back on his formula intake due all the table food he's eating. Around this age, some babies tend to only want 3 meals/bottles a day and then 1 bottle before bed. Soon enough he'll turn 1 and will be having whole milk in a sippy cup at meals. My daughter, on the hand, has started nursing more b/c she's not really eating much solid foods :( We're hoping it's just a phase!

Hi T.!
If there is one thing that I have learned having a baby, they go through so many phases! Your son is probably going through a phase where he is just not that hungry for the formula. My son does the same thing, only it is with baby food and table food! There are some weeks he will eat so much and barely any formula and then there are some weeks that he will only eat formula! It can be frustrating, but don't worry! Babies are just like us, they go through phases of being really hungry and not being really hungry! Also, he is getting to the point where he won't need the formula anymore, so maybe he is making the weaning process a little easier on you! Unless he doesn't eat much real food and starts to lose weight, I wouldn't be concerned! But if it really concerns you, then call your pediatrician! Hope this helps!
