10 Month Old with Yeast/diaper Rash
My 10 month old daughter has a really bad diaper rash and the Dr. said today that she had a little bit of yeast. He recommended Lotrimin. Does any one know which Lotrimin to use? I have some Vagisil cream. Is that the same or should I get Lotrimin?

Both my kids struggled with yeast infections. I used the lotrimin and I used a blow dryer to help dry them. I did try to use vagisil but it didn't seem to work as well, and cost more. I'd blow dry her on low and put lotimin and there is a power too. I used all three and change her often. It will take a few days to clear up.

The doctor should have given you some nystatin cream, it works faster than anything OTC. But any OTC anti fungal is fine and won't hurt her, Vagisil is perfectly OK. If you don't see some improvements in 48 hours, call the doctor back, get some nystatin and some liquid oral anti fungal too. And don't use babywipes with any alcohol in them, if yours does and you can't find the alcohol free ones, you can make your own with a soft paper towels, water and baby shampoo.
Also when you change her, let her bottom get as dry as possible, even leave the diaper off for 10-15 minutes and let it air out. The yeast grows in damp warm environments.
Both my kids were little yeast creatures, I feel your pain. But pay close attention to what it looks like,(those small red bumps) it looks slightly different than a diaper rash, that way you can jump on it quickly before it gets bad again. Also, any time she is given a antibiotic, while the doc is writing the script, have him/her write you an antifungal too, that way you don't have to go back when it breaks out. Increase her yogurt intake and she should have less outbreaks. Good Luck.

Hey M.,
I was dating a guy and everytime his daughter goes on an antibotic she would get a terrible yeast infection. I was told by my grandma about the following. Put Applecider vinager in her bath. This will help make her feel a little better. Also they make a baby acidolpholous (not sure if spelled right) it is a powder you put in her drink or food,it is sold @ Wild Oats. I also use to get them really bad before I had my son. this is what I had to do. hope this helps.

you can get the generic kind of anti fungal cream at walmart. My docter told me to use that if the diaper rash doesn't get better with the same. My daughter is 9 months and has really bad diaper rashes since she is eating meats and fruits and table foods. Because of the BM she is having sitting on her butt. But i also learned to use cloth diapers helps alot also. So good luck

I would not use that without asking a doctor.Anyway I worked in daycare for six years and I have three children. The cheapest way to go is to go to walmart and get the off brand of the athletes foot cream. The equate is the same and it's cheap. It is also safe and effective.I have used it on many children over the years.

Hello M.,
I wouldn't use either of those. I best thing to use is Brown Flour. What you can do is buy some flour put it on the stove and start to cook it stir it untill it's brown. I use this on my kids. My daughter came home, with no skin on her bottom I took her back to the hospital they put her under a lamp and gave me a bunch of creams. I used the stuff from the hospital untill I ran out, the stuff didn't help at all. I called my mom and she told me about the flour and her bottom healed with in a week. Flour is a part of yeast but if it is cooked it will pull it out. Well good luck

You might also try to put a little probiotics in her milk... you can get it in powdered form at Whole Foods... you can also find it in yogurt, like acidolphulis (sp?). If you are nursing, you can always put some in expressed milk.
It is good for restoring the good bacteria in the system... great for yeast infections.
Good Luck!!
