So What Happened?™
Thank everyone for the input! I appreciate it so much. I am not sure what the cream is called, she is at the sitter right now but it looks like a vaseline. In the two days of applying, it is 70% gone. Thank God! I just hate for her to be uncomfortable in any way. I had never experienced this with my oldest so this was a shocker for me!

My daughter had a couple of yeast infections before she was 1. She has very sensitive skin and gets diaper rashes very easily. My best investment was a tube of Lotrimin AF. It takes care of the yeast infection before it starts. Whenever she gets a diaper rash that I can't get rid of with Desitin, I hit it with antifungal cream and it disappears.
Don't worry, I was freaked out when I heard "yeast infection" to, but it is pretty common in babies that are still in diapers.
Good luck!

Hi D.- Try not to be too upset. With the right mediication it should go away quickly. I am not a doctor, I am only speaking from my own eperience. Little girls just get them. I have been a nanny for 15 years and I have seen a few yeast infections in that time. In fact, my own 18 month old daughter had one at 9 months. It is usually a combination of a wet diaper and using antibiotics in the weeks prior to the rash. I have also noticed that mothers who frequently get yeast infects often have daughters who are more prone to them, especially while they are still breast feeding. You did the right thing by taking her in to be seen, be kind to yourself, you didn't do anything wrong. L.

Hello D.,
I think I agree with the doctor of your baby because, you can usually tell if is yeast or Candida , because the rash is in the diaper area from a plain old diaper rash or because the rash may have multiple red bumps, pus-filled bumps, or a scaling pattern on the infected skin. In addition, the rash may extend along the pubic area and onto the lower part of the abdomen.(like hers) Another big clue: A yeast rash tends to hang around for more than two days and doesn't respond to any traditional diaper rash treatments. It may also show up in the skin folds of the groin area.
Yeasts are one-celled organisms that live in and on our bodies. Bacteria are also a normal part of our bodies. It is only when the yeast overgrows that it becomes a problem. As pregnancy progresses, a woman is more likely to have an overgrowth of yeast. At birth a vaginal overgrowth of yeast can be transferred to the baby, and the baby can end up with thrush (an oral yeast infection). (not your case)
A yeast infection can show up in many places. Infants typically develop yeast infections in the diaper area and in their mouths. Babies get yeast infections easily since their immune systems are not fully developed.
The best treatment for a yeast infection is a topical anti-yeast or anti-fungal cream such as Lotrimin AF, Nystatin, I recommend (Nystatin it works wonderful) or Monistat. These are available in the drugstore without a prescription. Use it as directed on the label. It should take a few days for the rash to clear up.
How can you avoid yeast infection?
- Change your girl wet and soiled diaper as soon as possible.
- Clean your girl bottom thoroughly after a bowel movement and give it a chance to dry before you slap on the next diaper. (that is one of the reasons I leave my a little one naked for a while she likes it anyway i think yours will apreciate too.
- Don't put diapers on so tightly that no air can circulate around your girl's skin.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel with yeast infections, since they are rare in potty-trained children. So as soon as your child says "bye-bye" to diapers, you can say "bye-bye" to yeast infections, as well.
I hope this help.
Ps. i was wondering if the doctor recomend my favorite cream to you(Nystatin)?????
go take care your a little precious baby and dont worry about your bathtub or rubber nipples.LOL

One thing that I did not see in any of the responses was antibiotics. They will often cause yeast infections. So, if your daughter has had a round of antibiotics recently, that is probably the culprit. My daughter has only been on them 3 times in her 2 1/2 years, and each time ended up with a yeast infection. I always try to give her lots of yogurt while she is on them, but inevitably, she still gets one.

Use yeast infection cream or what ever your doctor told you to use and keep her private area dry. Yeast needs a moist environment to grow. There's no reason to be appalled.

Don't worry, it happens, Especially with girls that are still in diapers. Moisture causes yeast to grow and they're stuck in diapers all the time that get wet and sit in them sometimes. Try a different brand of diaper and try putting pure corn starch at each diaper change. Also if she's been given any antibiotics it can cause a yeast infection, keep that in mind next time the dr gives her antibiotics.

That same thing happened to my daughter when she was little about that age and I was told by my pediatrician it had to do with the rubber nipples on the bottles and he had me switch immediately to sippy cups to stay away from the rubber. He said it does tend to bother little girls. Wierd but we stopped bottles and it didn't happen again(we also had medicine to help clear it up too.) Good luck. Not sure if that helps at all.
