The peds dentists I took my daughter to wanted to see them at 18 months old. I took her, but she was so scared that she started crying and would not stop. They couldn't do anything so just charged us and we left without them doing anything. They wanted us to come back in six months. Then at two we went to another dentist (family friend)that let me sit with her while he checked her teeth. It went great and all has been well since. I would suggest to wait until she is two or at least find a dentist that will let you sit with her. Our dentist now wants to see them at 2 1/2 or 3.

I think we took ours when he was a little over a year. I think your daughter is probably ready. Better early than too late. I actually knew a woman whose 2 yr old needed caveties (crowns I think). I'm not saying yours has these problems, it just wouldn't hurt to go.

I've heard 1 year or when they get their first teeth, so it sounds like you're ready. Our dentist pretty much just counted teeth, introduced them to the dentist's office/chair, etc. If I recall, they also had me sit in the chair first, then they layed on top of me facing toward the dentist. I think that made it reassuring for them, too.
Good luck!
