I am at a loss in what to do. I have a little girl who just turned one and can not get her to eat regular food. She will the biter biscuits, the pin wheels and the little baby granola bar for babies and sometimes like some mashed potatoes but i have tried everything to get her to eat other stuff. She won't even eat baby jar food. I just recently took her off formula and she has taken to drinking the milk no problem but even with juices she will only drink a little bit and then looses interest. I even bought a food processor to grind up food in a good consistency. I don't know what to do, she just seems to have no interest in it what so ever. Moms out there, please lend me your advice, I am at a loss at what to do.

What can I do next?

Hey Jen!
Have you tried giving her any finger foods? I know she only has the four front teeth, but maybe try giving her ripe bananas (because they're mushier). Gerber sells pasta pick-ups and Lucas loves them! They might be too big for her to start with, but if you cut them in half, they're very easy to chew (or gum) and if she can't get it chewed up enough, they're easy to swallow. She seems like a really independant little girl and I'm thinking maybe she just wants to feed herself! Any ripe fruit should do the trick (Lucas loves mango) and you could even just steam some carrots or green beans and just make them small enough so that she can just swallow it if she can't mush it up enough with her gums.
Good luck!

My 3 year old son has always been a picky eater also. I buy instant breakfast drinks and put them in his milk in the morning so he gets a few more nutrients. i also give him soy milk and he prefers it since he has gotten it from a very young age.

We take him to buffets to eat all the time to keep trying different things on him. From fruits, salads, to different meats and fish.

The doctor told me not to worry about it when he gets around 5 years old all his taste will start to increase. He told me to feed him whatever he will eat even if it is the same thing over and over. Now he is almost four and is expanding his diet and filling out just fine.

I am 54 years old and raising my grandson. My daughters never had eating issues. I find that parents worry too much. Just relax your little one will thrive in spite of us parents.

If your worried about her not getting the right things to eat maybe look into putting her on vitamin. My doctor told me that wasn't even necessary but of course I did until he started eating.

Good luck and don't worry too much.

I am also the mom of a picky eater who is four years old. I was a picky eater myself when I was a baby. I literally only ate every other day. My father was so worried, he took me to the doctor. The doctor told him "When she's hungry, she'll eat." That's how I approach the problem with my son. I just try to give him what he likes and relax. He is perfectly healthy. He went through one stage when he wouldn't eat anything but hot dogs and american cheese :) My doctor also told me to stop reading parenting magazines because they were making me worry about nothing. Hope I helped some...

My son is 3 now but as a baby, he wouldn't gum foods - soft fruits/veggies, nor biter biscuits, etc. He loved Gerber Baby Food not homemade. He loved applesauce, bananas, chef boyardee mini raviolis or O's w/meatballs and that was it for a long time. Now he loves to eat Panda Express Orange Flavored Chicken, hotdogs, chicken nuggets, fries, plain wheat toast or with american cheese (grilled cheese), and apples, bananas, raisins, etc.

Your daughter might like some salt or some sugar with her foods. Mine has a sweet tooth, but tends to like potato chips, popcorn, now.

Just keep offering it to her. If she's hungry she'll eat it. Just don't get worried and start giving her something that you know she'll eat after she refuses to eat what you've already given her. My son is almost 3 now and refuses to eat most of the things I cook. I just make sure that he has at least a little bit (not so much that he fills up on it) of one thing on his plate that I know he likes. The rule is that he has to eat everything that's on his plate before he gets seconds on anything.

Good luck!

That is a common problem when children don't want to eat anything and then all of a sudden they start eating alot. Since she likes to drink the milk, I would suggest making her some banana or strawberry milkshakes and make sure you give her vitamins every morning. ;-)

My son used to like it when I let him pick up and eat the food himself. He like eating green beans right off his tray and also Cheerios. Hope this helps :)

my son also would not eat for the longest time. i breast fed until he was 3 yrs old but no matter what he wouldnt eat anything else. my pediatrician said he would eat when he was hungry and that he wouldnt starve todeath. i stil worried and the more i tried the more he resisted. then he went to eating just one thing for months at a time. he would eat hot dogs or only cereal. he is now 17 yrs old and in perfect shape. he is a runner and a wrestler and i still worry about him sometimes but he now eats very healthy. he wont eat processed foods and no junk food. in fact we have to take all junk food out of the house when wrestling season starts. i could never even feed him french fires when he was little. he doesnt like potatoes and never will. he eats mostly fresh veggies or griled skinless chicken or fresh fish. very rarely will he eat red meat. he hates cake so we dont have bvirthday partie sfor him because he never did like cake and he hates parties. he would rather have cash instead of a prtyif he sees us eating or drinking something he doesnt aopprove of he just mummbels something about the 200 empty calories we are consuming. he runs about 20 miles a day year round and is in excelent shape. i thought he wouldnt grow well or be sickly but he is one of the healthiest kids i know . so just try not to push food on you child . make it available and when they get hungry they will eat
