This month I have just felt weird, back pain, lots of discharge(TMI), and crampy. My period is supposed to start tonight, but last night I couldnt wait, and tested, AND there was a VERY faint line, BUT still a line. I was estatic, I just KNEW when I tested this AM it would be darker, but it was negative. I am DEVASTATED. How is that posssible? Has this happened to anyone, could I still be pregnant? What should I do? Im lost

I would wait a day or two and test again if AF doesn't show up. I have had false positives with the Answer brand... and also, if you wait past the recommended timeframe, faint lines may show up. I know it can be frustrating. Good luck to you!!

I did a test and nothing showed up after 15 minutes or so so I threw it in the trash. I did another one a few days later and there was a faint line. I dug the first one out of the trash and there was a line.
With my first pregnancy after trying for 1 and a half years, we did a test and the line was very faint. We called the 800 number and they said no matter how faint a line means pregnant.
I bet you can get some one to do a blood test for you at work!!

I would try another precnancy test or two in the next few days.
My breasts started to feel very tender to the touch, and heavy, and they got bigger. The areola part where the nipple is was much darker, I was extremely tired all the time and none of my clothes would fit right. My 2nd pregnancy I knew I was pregnant from all of these symptoms. Good Luck! & Try not to stress out.

M. - you crack me up only b/c I remember EXACTLY what trying to get pregnant the first time was like. Granted, it's been over 10 years ago but I remember like it was yesterday. I didn't know ANYTHING and read THE "How to.." pregnancy book that has sequels re: infancy, toddlers, etc. but it still doesn't tell you everything. But back to you - I have been told that you can have false negatives, but not false positives, the morning collection is the best time to test (I know what you mean about TMI), and that if you stop stressing about it (yeah, right) it will happen all by itself. With my son (my 1st), the dr. said he was going to put me on Clomid - I got pregnant before he could. I'm so thankful b/c from reading the lit/side effects you just never know. Also - what kind of birth control were you on? Sometimes getting it ALL of out of your system can take awhile. I had been on DepoProvera for a year and a half and it took every bit of 18 mos for us to get pregnant. The good news for you - everything sounds NORMAL for you and your hub!! Also - the discharge (clear, slippery, kind of like egg whites - I can't believe I'm telling you this) is PERFECT timing for ovulation. I had NO IDEA that's what that was until becoming pregant with my second child. Pay attention to all of that. I told my husband THE NIGHT of inception that we would be pregnant and he said NO WAY. I was SOOO right. I loved it!! At any rate - I hope this helps a little.

My advice is to test in a couple of days again if your period doesn't start. I am currently 31 wks pg and I tested on the day I was suppose to start and it was negitive. I was devistated as I knew I was PG. We had an IUI so we were watching everything very closely. I waited 3 days more and too it again. This time there was no hiding the positive sign.

My OB told me that for some women those HPT's just aren't strong enough initially.

Good luck and I hope that you are PG!!!

I had the same thing happen, with my first child. I took a pregnancy test soon after I was suppose to have started and never did, and it was a very faint line, come to find out that yes we were pregnant. With my second child, I had to take a total of 4 tests, you guessed it, 2 came back positive with very faint lines, and the other 2 came back negative...I am now in the 35 weeks along with my second son...the only way that I knew was the blood work and exam from my ob/gyn. Good luck, and I hope things turn out the way that you are praying for!!!

this happened to me..I had a period at the time I was supposed to, but being as I was pregnant before, I just didn't feel "right" so I took a preganancy test and it came up positive, but it was a very faint positive line. So I decided to give it a few more days, and ended up have an etopic pregnancy ( I was 6 weeks) and emerency surgery. I ended up losing a tube..but I gave my body 3 months and we tried again and got pregnant first time around. (my husband was proud of himself let me tell you)..my son is now 2 years old. Go ahead and check make a Drs. appointment, and get checked out, just to rule things out. It cou3ld be thought to, that your HCG levels aren't really high yet, because if you are pregnant, it might be yu are too early, and your body hasn't adjusted it. That happened to my sister-in-law, and they are due in October. Good luck with everything. Let me know how it turns out!

Hi M.,

It was probably to early to test to begin with. Did you use the same brand each time? HCG levels increase about every 2 days, so if you tested on Sat, then test again on Monday and use the first morning urine, it will have the highest levels of HCG.

I hope that helped and good luck.

I'm pregnant (for sure) and I had negative home preg.tests when I was really pregnant (early on in the pregnancy) I was like you, confused, because I had had a positive test or 2 (w/ faint lines). But sure enough, I had been pregnant all along. Go get a blood test at an OB and they'll tell you for sure. urine tests won't always be accurate, especially early on in pregnancy. God bless!

M., when I was pregnant with my daughter I took an at home test and it was negative...a week later another was positive! I was so excited, but when I went to the clinic the pregnancy test was negative, totally devistated, I wanted a second opinion, so I went to my doctor and was 8 weeks pregnant! Those at home tests are crazy sometimes, but it just goes to show that the doctors tests aren't always accurrate either. Go with your gut! I knew I was pregnant and I continued to prove it!lol...good luck and congratulations!

M. -
I am 18 weeks pregnant tomorrow with our first baby, and when I first got pregnant I absolutely knew. We decided to get one of the home pregnancy tests that can detect early, and the first one came back negative. The next two had a VERY faint line. I just knew the first one was wrong (too early to detect HCG levels), and the next two confused me. When the doctor's office opened again after New Year's, we went and confirmed with him (and even there, the line was VERY faint - but he knew how to read it, and I, as a first timer, wasn't sure). It's possible that your HCG levels are just too low right now for the home test to detect them (hence saying negative, even if it's positive). Go to your doctor and have him/her do a test, or just wait a little bit longer and retest. My earliest symptoms were having to pee more than usual, being tired, and not being able to run the distances I was used to being able to run. Try not to stress - it won't help the baby, and it won't help if you haven't conceived yet. It will happen for you. For us, our days in town at the same time finally lined up, and when we stopped trying so hard (almost making it seem like work), we immediately got pregnant.
Good luck!

You need to contact your obgyn asap. One of two things could have happened, you could be pregnant but in such early stages the pregnancy hormones are not showing up or any medicines you are taking could be giving you a false pregnancy. Go to you obgyn and have them take some blood and do a pregnacy that way so they can tell for sure if you are pregnant or not.

Girl, you are pregnant! (At least I think so) My tests (3 and my mom took one to see if hers showed a faint line for comparison- it didn't)all came out with very faint lines (so faint I could barely see them) A line is a line and I think it is positive. My tests all faded after a few hours. My MIL insisted that I save one for the baby book but none of them retained the line. Good luck. I am crossing my fingers!

Stressing yourself in such a way is NOT conducive to anything. You may end up with a hysterical pregnancy where you have stressed your mind and body so much that your body will behave in that way. Relax. No matter what method is being used to assist in becoming pregnant, none of it will work in the midst of anxiety. I am not sure if you're a Spiritual woman or not, but in Philippians 4:4-8, we are encouraged to not be anxious about anything, but in all things to submit our requests in prayer and with thanks giving.

There is always a blood test to truly confirm or deny pregnancy.

I too had a positive pregnancy test with a very faint line. sadly,my levels weren't very high and it resulted in a blighted ovum. An egg that just didn't continue to grow is how I explain it. Or an empty sac is how the Dr. called it. I would see your Doctor to confirm it. I know its very stressful but don't give up hope. When I finally decided it was okay, that I didn't need to be pregnant again,God blessed me with my now 3yo son. Good luck to you.

I would re-test. There is a such thing as false postives in pregnancy tests. I have a friend who had one. I think I took 7 tests with my first child, just to be sure...little much. The cramping and inc discharge can be normal if you are pregnant. I had extensive cramping with both of my pregnancies, but then you could also have that if your are not pregnant. I say all of that to say, take another test and don't be so frustrated if it's neg. Sometimes stress can lead to difficulty getting pregnant. Hope this helps, l and d nurse who has learned alot about trying to get pregnant.

When I thought I was pregnant with my youngest Daughter (now almost 4) the line never did get beyone a pale shadow. I took about 6 tests total (I knew I was PG, but my husband did not want to believe (she is our 3rd). I took test after test and some were pale and some were showing negative. The last test I took was in the AM at my in-laws house and I actually had to go to my MIL and have her look at the test...there was a very faint line. Any line usually means you are PG, you could be so very early along that your hcg hormones are not very high. My suggestion would be to call your doctor tomorrow and arrange for a blood test (I eventually had to do this so my husband would get off my back...lol). My suggestion would be to be cautiously optomistic as you are only 1 day late, but more than likely with any type of line you are going to be getting a bundle of joy some time in late December or ealy January. Good Luck!

Of course it is possible that you are pregnant! Back when I was pregnant (in the dark ages) we didn't have home pregnancy tests. I had missed a period and the doctor took 3 tests over several weeks and all came back negative. My then husband said "That doctor could take a test every week, and get his $15 each time right up until you have this baby!" I told the doctor what he said and the doc said, "This one's on me then," and that test came out positive! LOL

And even somewhere in between all the negatives and the positive I started spotting and thought I was starting a period, but the spotting only lasted one day.

Hopefully you will get a firm positive the next time. Good luck, dear :)

What kind of test did you use? Where they two different types? Every brand and type have a certain level they pick up on so if you used a early testing one and a regular it would account for the difference. I would strongly suggest that you go and get a test that you can take BEFORE your missed period and try again.

I tend to agree with the other ladies, a line is a line. Most likely you are pregnant, but test again with a good early test and let us know. Be careful this happened me and I had an ectopic pregnancy. Of course I didn't know this until I had to be rushed to emergency surgery. Read about ectopic pregnancies at webmd.com. Look for any signs that this might be what is happening to avoid surgery.

I've always read that with an at-home pregnancy test, you can never have a false positive, but it can be a false negative. You may have just gotten an expired or bad test. If its turned up positive once, get a new test (new box)and try again. A blood test is the most accurate. Depending on the level of hormone in your body a faint line means just that, just a low hormone this early in your pregnancy. Good luck!

Someone else asked if you used different brands of tests...excellent question. Also the second test could be old. There is generally no way you can have a second line and not have hcg in your urine. There's no bleed-off from the first line because it doesn't work that way. Take heart from these other ladies and go out and buy another high-quality test and do it again. Make sure to double-check with your OB before assuming you're not pregnant because it really CAN take awhile for the hcg level to build up enough to show up on a home test. You got a positive response and need to know why it was there if you're not pregnant. The test is not faulty if it registers a "yes" because it is measuring hcg, and if you are not pregnant then you REALLY need to know why there is hcg in your urine. I'm betting you're pregnant, so go get yourself another test, girl!

I'm sorry about the tests. Don't give up hope ... its just takes some women longer to get pregnant. It took me 10 months, and my husband and I are both in our 20s. After 9 months of trying, I became very discouraged, and I stopped paying any attention to my cycle ... I decided I wouldn't think about it for 3 months, then I'd go see a doctor. One month later, I was pregnant! Hopefully, you will be pregnant soon.
