1 Month Old Is "Clicking" While Nursing and Getting Very Gassy and crying-HELP!

My oldest son started doing that, and since she's got the gas, I'd say it's a bad latch. Especially because it doesn't always respond to the gas drops.
It got to where i would have to shove my breast farther into his mouth when he opened up. otherwise, he was sort of lazy and would slide off. He really needed a mouthful, and then the clicking stopped. It sounds and really did seem rather barbaric, but after a while, it all worked out.

It sounds like she isn't latched on correctly. My oldest son would have this happen once in a while when he was still pretty new. If the clicking starts stick your finger in between her mouth and your nipple to get her to let go. You may have to hold her in a different position to get a better latch. Try using the football hold if you aren't already. Keep trying to get a hold of the lactation specialist to see what else she suggests to help you guys out. Hang in there!

clicking is also a sign of reflux, thrush, fast let down. Lots of things besides a bad latch!

Is she gaining weight. Having lots of wet diapers?

Be glad she doesn't want a pacifier. Try giving her mylicon drops before each feeding. Try feeding her more frequently too so she isn't so prone to gulp. If nothing else maybe try a bottle so you can kind of control her intake and see how much she is eating???

It's probably a bad latch. She's probably coming unlatched and sucking in air which is causing the gas. Really focus on her a getting a good deal of areola and keeping her held close to you. And hopefully the LC will call back soon.

It does sound like she's not latching on right. The football hold helped a lot with our DD 1 week old who has latching problems. I was able to get it with help of the lactation consultant. Also, we're now using the cross-cradle hold for getting latched, and then I can relax into the normal cradle hold. You might also consider using a nipple shield for a few feedings. Some babies get attached to them, and you don't want that to happen, but a consultant can help with that, too. We did it to get latched and started, and then when DD backed off, removed it. I hope it goes better. Hang in there. As far as sleep deprivation goes, have you considered trying the book On Becoming Babywise by Gary Ezzo. We've done it with all three, and short of jaundice, DD is doing 4 to 5 hours at night without waking up (except that now we are waking her up to eat). It's worked with all three of our kids to get them sleeping through the night. You can get it at the library. GL! Hope you get some good answers and hear from the consultant soon!
