Ever Have a Yeast Infection While Pregnant?

When I was pregnant with my daughter, I didn't have very many complications. I'm 15 weeks pregnant, and have a mild yeast infection. The Dr. says that I can use Monistat both internally and externally. I was just curious if anyone else out there ever used it while pregnant. I have bought the "ovual, one day" type and am kind of nervous to use it.

Thanks,
L.

I got a couple of yeast infections when I was pregnant with my son back in 1992. There was no problem taking Monistat.

I had one when I was about 7 months along with my first. My doctor gave me an over the counter, three day type. There are safety barriers (I honestly don't know what else to call them) between your baby and whatever enters your body. Your doctor isn't going to give you anything that will damage that layer of protection.

yes i did. please go back to the Dr if it does not clear up. Mine started out as a yeast infection, but then became a bacterial infection that probably assisted in my water breaking early.
i didn't use the monistat when the dr told me to.
good luck to you and baby!

Yes everytime. With each one of my children I get sick in the first trimester. So when I start taking the atiboitics I get a yest infection. I have always used the internal cream for seven days. My doctor said that it was just fine and more inportant for me to be health than to be uncorfortble down there. Good luck with everything.

I have 3 kids, the first and the last are both girls. I had yeast infections fequently with both girls. I used Monistat most of the time it worked fine. However one time it didn't work and had to get a rx one from the doctor. It never bothered the pregnancy just made it uncomfortable for me. Best of luck to you!!

Hi L.,

Even a little plain yogurt from a newly opened package (to make sure no other form of bacteria is in it) inserted by putting yogurt on a finger can be a great cure. It's the probiotics in the yogurt that do the trick.

Good luck,
K.

HI yes i used the 3 day one. but let me tell you I went through hell with this issue. just promise me you will never take antibiotics for anything!!!!!!!!! oh my god I've been through hell about this topic. stop eating sugar and a lot of processed carbs. If you continue to be yeasty when your milk comes in the yeast will thrive even more and your boobs will feel like there is broken glass in them while breatfeeding. please take care of yourself. Yeast thrives on sugar and carbs that breakdown into sugar quickly....avoid these and no antibiotics no matter what happens and your fine. have a happy pregnancy!

All The Best.

Ok L., I'm going to suggest a few things that may gross you out. :) The thing is, they are natural and work-it's just they are kind of strange.

#1: take a garlic clove and smash it and insert in your <ahem> vagina at bedtime. Do this a couple of times and it should take care of your YI.

#2: smooth plain yogurt on the outside at bedtime-this takes care of the itchiness.

#3: If you make smoothies, add a TBLspoon of Coconut oil to your smoothie and it will help cut the candida.

I'm telling you-these are weird, but they work.

Best of luck to you! Down with YIs!!!!

I see you already responded, but I thought I would share my experience with you. I have never had yeast infections, except during my first pregnancy (I don't know why, but I guess I was susceptible to them at that time, but not at any other time), my doctor thought Monistat and other medications were "safe" but I am super concerned about exposing my babies to harmful medications (in or out of the womb) so I chose a natural alternative. Acidopholus (sp?) is great for fighting yeast infections. I ate yogurt with live active cultures and took an acidopholus supplement (found at Whole Foods or any other health food store with a vitamin/herbal remedy section). It cleared up within a couple of days. Monistat may have worked faster, but I felt better knowing that there was no potential for harmful effects from medication. When my boys have had yeast-type infections (ie. thrush) I use acidopholus and yogurt and it clears it up naturally. Hope this helps!

Hi L.,

With my first pregnancy, I got many YI and UTIs! Monistat 7-day is what my doc prescribed to me even though it's an OTC medicine. She told me not to get anything less like the one day or three day as it's too harmful for the baby. Use it internally at night and externally for comfort during the day. Good luck!

When i was pregnant with my daughter i would get yeast infections almost every other week it seemed like. I just used Monistat-1 and it worked great. My dr. recommended that i buy monistat-7 and use one insert a week to keep the yeast levels down and that helped ALOT also.

I also bought lavender essential oil and eucalyptus oil and put a drop of each in my underwear each day and that actually made it go away. I only figured that out in my last trimester! The lavender heals and the eucalyptus soothes. Be careful on the euc. oil if you put too much it will burn. But try that! you can get that at henry's or mother's market or something like those.
You can also try collidal silver. Its a natural anti-biotic and you can use it topically or internally. Just put some in a spray bottle and spray it on the infected area or "itchy" area . Do that several times a day for about a week or more. You should start to feel it working after 3-4 days.
Let me know if you have anymore questions.
Sorry to hear about this...hope you feel better soon

I am under complete midwife care (I am having a home birth) and so obviously am someone who likes do handle things as natural as possible. I had a yeast infection during my first trimester and my midwife recommended the same thing. It worked and I haven't had any issues associated with it. I say do it. You'll be so much more comfortable!

Hi L.~ It is very common to get yeast infections while pregnant. I had several during my pregnancy with my daughter and always used monistat but I do remember my doctor reccommending I use the 7 day treatment? Maybe it is milder? You may want to ask your doctor or a pharmacist.
Good Luck-
Amanda

Hi L.!

Regarding your question on the "yeast infection", it happens to many womens, pregnant or not. However, most pregnant women have had it, if not complicated, and it would go away with this "Monista" medication. It is perfectly safe to use and you will feel better in 2 days at least!

Do not be nervous or worry about this issue...the "ovual-1 day" is good and the other one for "3-days" or "10 days" is good to help on the infection. Try first the "ovual/1 day" and you will be happy to be better afterward!

If it persists yet, then use the 3-days or 10-days and have not concern on this matter. The best time to use (have to use twice a day) is in the morning and at bedtime.

After infection is gone away, have a double check-up to make sure you are ok then.

Sometimes, yeast infection may take longer or recurr after a period of times. I have had it few times ever before. My younger daughter have had the same infection as you.

Wish you the best of everything and a safe pregnancy!

Let me know how are you doing, ok?

Good luck!

I never had a yeast infection while pregnant, but I used to get them everytime I took antibiotics and several times just before my period would start. Then I started learning about natural ways to cure my body.

I would start taking some probiotics. Probiotics helps the body to maintain the good bacteria (yeast is a bacteria) in the body's digestive tract. These good bacteria fight the bad bacteria in your body and keep them at bay. I take Enzymatic Therapy's Acidohpilus PEARLS everyday. Took it while I was preggo with DD. I also give my kids (age 3 and 1), Udo's Choice Infant's Probiotic Powder once every other day into their morning drink. And about once a week I also use this powder in my own drink. It's totally natural and totally safe to take while pregnant.

I also had to cut way back on the amount of artificial sweeteners and refined carbs that I ate. The sugars encourage the growth of yeast in the body.

Also eating more fresh fruits and veggies will help keep your digestive system running more smoothly and the nutrients will help your body fight off infection and bad bacteria.

And a little exercise each day (like a 20 minute walk) will help keep the blood flowing through your body, which then helps your digestive system flow better, which then helps fight the bad bacteria...starting to notice a pattern here?????

It's all about keeping your digestive system running smoothly. When it is running smoothly, your body is more able to absorb the nutrients you put into it, and then your body is better able to function and fight off the bad stuff.

I also will mix in a little pure pomegranate or pure cranberry juice with a little apple juice and water to drink. I give this to my kids too. We also eat a lot of fresh berries. The antioxidants in the berries also help to fight off bad yeast.

And if you are interested in finding natural remedies for the symptoms you are having, I am sure there is something at your local healthfood store (Henry's or Wholefoods would for sure have something). And then you could also ask the person working the Remedies section about the stuff I mentioned above to see if they are truly safe during pregnancy.

Good Luck!

You could try and take those yogurt drinks which has probiotics in them. There are lots of different brands on the market now... it may improve the "balance" of your system... which when imbalanced, and can erupt into yeast infections.

And yes, like the other poster said, sugars exacerbate yeast infections.

take care and all the best,
Susan
